Pilot, mechanic, tire technician, manager, engineer, chef, and mental coach: meet Luca Lunghi, since 2017 a pilot and instructor for Di.Di, known as “the one who does everything on his own” in the paddock!
Luca has lived with an upper limb disability since birth caused by obstetric paralysis due to his weight of almost 6 kilograms.
“For me, it’s a non-disability – he adds – because thanks to the therapies received since early childhood, apart from some minor hindrance, I can say I’m normal or that’s how I see myself.”
Because of this, Luca lives his situation very calmly, until the event that truly turns his life upside down arrives, going far beyond what a young boy might expect. At 15, both of his parents pass away within just one month.
A trauma for anyone, even more so for a teenager.
How to survive such a heavy blow?
Luca begins to find the strength to move forward and thinks…
He thinks that after every fall, you must get back up and that after a storm, calm will always return, and he makes this thought his life philosophy and the strength that drives him to achieve important milestones in school, sports, and work.
“For the respect of my parents – he asserts – I would never have tolerated that envious people of my successes could stop my determination or create problems for me. I could never have tolerated it.”
And thanks to his determination, he also discovers Di. Di., and decides to share their valuable and emotionally powerful project, capable of engaging and overwhelming both people with disabilities and those without.
Like every true Di.Di, Luca rides his motorcycle to experience strong emotions, to bring smiles to children in oncology wards, to feel part of a group, to have something to hold onto when Life kicks in with all its might.
Long live Di.Di and everything it makes possible!
